GPS has many limitations in urban areas: slow startup, loss of signal coverage, and faulty accuracy, especially for pedestrians and other slow speed users. To make up for these drawbacks, Pole Star has developed a location technology for urban environments combining GPS signals, signals from Wi-Fi beacons located in the city, and cartographic data.
This technology, included in the NAO product range and especially in NAO City, includes software embedded in user terminals. It is suitable for general public terminals (smartphones, PDAs, laptops, PC tablets) as well as professional terminals (EDA, specific terminals).
Pole Star urban location technology allows fast calculation of the user’s position, very accurate location and coverage throughout the city.
It is entirely compatible with Pole Star’s indoor location technology providing continual service to applications operating in indoor urban areas (subway, train stations, public buildings, museums, shopping centers) as well as outdoors. Its excellent performance makes it suitable for applications designed for pedestrians and in particular step-by-step guidance applications.
