Compensating for the weaknesses and limitations of GPS
Generally, it is not possible to be located inside buildings using navigation signals transmitted by satellites (GPS signals for example) as the signals are weakened or impeded by building structures.
To solve this problem, Pole Star has developed high performance indoor positioning technologies.
Pole Star technologies use :
- A GPS/Wi-Fi/cartographic data hybrid technology, which is based on the deployment of a Wi-Fi infrastructure on targetted sites, offering location accuracy for most application requirements at a very affordable cost. This technique ensures compatibility with existing communication infrastructures (Wi-Fi networks which could already be deployed on the site are not disturbed) and commercially available terminals (smart phones/PTA, laptops, netbooks, etc.).
- Ultimately, a solution based on Ultra Wide Band radio technology. This new generation will offer more accurate, robust positioning, in addition allowing the system to be used in tactical deployments, in other words without prior installation on the site.
